The summer’s busy, but take a moment

It has been raining non-stop this whole week! There was a time in my life where I would have seen that as a bad thing, but as a gardener I have learned to really appreciate the rain. This has been a week where I haven’t had to water anything and have had an excuse not to do my typical weeding. Instead I’ve been able to enjoy time spent inside my house or even just sitting on my front porch watching the rain.

One of the gifts my spiritual practice has given me is the ability to appreciate the changing of the seasons. Here we are at Midsummer. It is the halfway point of the year. The month of June flew by and we are about to enter the dog days of summer.

As time has gone on I have come to realize more and more that we can understand the rhythms of our individual lives just by observing nature. As humans we like to think that we stand defiant of these natural processes, but really we are just as much a part of the forest as any other creature. Nature pauses during the rain, and so do we.
