Spring is in the air! Here in Virginia (zone 7a) I already have vegetable seeds sprouted and I am just so excited to see what the garden is going to produce this year! Last year I produced so much that this year I’m going to start canning in order to make the most of my harvests. Last year I ended up giving much of it away because I had way more than I could eat.
I’m someone that really enjoys seeing pictures of other people’s gardens and seeing what people are growing, so I’ve decided I’d start taking pictures and giving some highlights for all of you. If that’s not something you’re interested in or if you want to see more of something else, just let me know in the comments section. I want this blog to be useful and enjoyable to people.
I’ve been hearing that apparently this is a big year for people buying seeds. If you’re buying up seeds as a “just in case” measure, you should really just go ahead and plant them and start gardening this year. It takes a few years to get a garden to be productive. I’m a pretty experienced gardener, and even for me it takes about 4 years to get the weeds under control and to get the balance just right in the garden so that it can be productive in the way I want it to be.
When I was a child I remember my mother trying to have a vegetable garden and she would harvest barely anything. It really takes quite a bit of trial and error. There’s a certain amount of nuance and magic involved. I’ve learned a few high-yield tricks and am happy to share them as we go along.
