When you think of small town Virginia, an occult community doesn’t exactly come to mind. In fact, New Age bookstores and the like are few and far between here. However, I did go on a bit of a road trip yesterday and discovered “Pyramid” in Waynesboro, VA. This shop is GORGEOUS. How could you walk by and not come on in and check it out?
What makes Pyramid special is that it isn’t just another occult shop, it’s specifically Appalachian Magick. As a hedge witch, I invite wisdom from all cultural traditions. It’s especially intriguing to know that there is a witchcraft tradition hidden in plain sight right here in my new home State! The shop keeper recommended I read the book “Backwoods Witchcraft” to find out more.
What I liked about this store was that it didn’t seem to include any of the “Llewelyn-approved” mainstream witchy products you see at every occult store you visit. Sure there were plenty of crystals, incense, oracle decks, etc. but the selection was hyper-local and many of the products and offerings seemed to be made by local people in the area.
So if you ever find yourself West of Charlottesville, come check it out!
